Athens was an amazing adventure.  Though the city itself is enormous and hectic you can still feel the history on the street corners.  Standing at the Acropolis you cannot help to imagine that you are a merchant at a once bustling city center.  I’m sure the islands are incredible (that’s next trip), but to really experience a country and a culture you must first finds its heart and its origin. This is what you experience in Athens.  To be able to touch and stand within a stone structure that was built in 5th century BC puts life at this moment into a different perspective.  What is a lifetime for us will just be a glimpse to the people of the future and hopefully the history we leave in our place will be as worthy as the gifts are predecessors left us.
